Interview #1 This interview was recorded by Ms. C. W. Higgens ofSallie Smith. Sallie Smith was a white, versatile and creative farm owner and laboror in Birksville, Alabama. Throughout Sallie’s life, she worked extremely hard for her keep. Sallies motto was “idle hands don’t reap rewards” meaning if she was not working she was not pulling her own weight. Sallie Smith was also very determined to fulfill her duties without cutting corners and never looked for the easy way out. I think a very important quote by Sally Smith which almost fully outlines her philosophy was, “That is drive yourself! One pays for it in the long run.” Sally Smith created her own destiny rather than waiting for things to happen and sitting idle, because there are those who wait for things to happen and others to chase after those `things and that kind of person would be Sallie Smith. I think Smith’s ideas on life are extremely moral and would make a good structured living guide for all to live by.

Interview #2
This interview was recorded by Mary Chappell of Katy Brumby at about age 50. In her childhood years Katy (African American) learned about hard work due to the fact that she was the oldest of eight sibblings. Katy Brumby was a hard working female as a cook and a maid in the house of the interviewer. Katy believed strongly in a hard work ethic and felt there were too many people on welfare who could be working. Being the Independent woman Katy was, she decided against marrige because she believed all it did was give one a shoulder to lean on as an exuse to slack-off. Not only was Brumby focused on hard work by was also an enlightenment thinker in a way and always questioned equality and wondered why the color of her skin made her not as good as everyone else. I myself would be honored to meet Katy Brumby in person because of her extreme dedication to hard work and self-independence!
